The Jonathan Edwards Soci­ety held its 2008 Con­fer­ence on “Jonathan Edwards on Beauty in Art, Nature, and God,” Octo­ber 3–5 at the First Churches of Northamp­ton, Mass­a­chu­setts. The papers explored Edwards’ under­stand­ing of beauty as man­i­fested in art, nature and God. Beauty is a (if not the) cen­tral cat­e­gory through which Jonathan Edwards under­stands virtue, nature, and God. His under­stand­ing of virtue as itself a kind of beauty, his inter­pre­ta­tion of nat­ural beauty as a type or sym­bol of spir­i­tual beauty, and his con­cep­tion of even God as being essen­tially beauty are well enough known to read­ers of Edwards.

We extend our deep­est con­do­lences to the fam­ily and friends of Chris­tine Dixon who passed away en route from Aus­tralia to this year’s con­fer­ence. Chris­tine had been a fel­low at the Jonathan Edwards Cen­ter. Ken Minkema tes­ti­fied to Christine’s deep piety and faith as he read her paper in her honor.
