The Jonathan Edwards Society held its 2008 Conference on “Jonathan Edwards on Beauty in Art, Nature, and God,” October 3–5 at the First Churches of Northampton, Massachusetts. The papers explored Edwards’ understanding of beauty as manifested in art, nature and God. Beauty is a (if not the) central category through which Jonathan Edwards understands virtue, nature, and God. His understanding of virtue as itself a kind of beauty, his interpretation of natural beauty as a type or symbol of spiritual beauty, and his conception of even God as being essentially beauty are well enough known to readers of Edwards.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Christine Dixon who passed away en route from Australia to this year’s conference. Christine had been a fellow at the Jonathan Edwards Center. Ken Minkema testified to Christine’s deep piety and faith as he read her paper in her honor.
